2.8 Telephone & Data

There are telephone and data points at low level in the lounge and concealed in the kitchen units (see below) where Wi-Fi routers can be connected. The incoming cabinet contains the master incoming BT socket and is located at high level in the cupboard in the hallway.

On the wall above the cabinet there is also a double socket, one for the TV amp and a second for a future router if you wish to have it located there. This master socket is then patched directly to the room outlets so that you can then connect your router for hard wired data connections or alternatively you can use the Wi-Fi from the router. There is a screw-fixed access panel in the top left hand corner of the cabinet which can be unscrewed so that plugs and cables can enter the patch panel.

Data Cabinet and Patch Panel

The incoming cables that have been installed are sufficient to run both your phone lines and also broadband internet and are ready to receive a phone connection from BT Openreach or a local cable company. Once you move in you will need to arrange for the phone line to be connected or ‘made live’ with the relevant provider.

When arranging for your BT engineer to connect the phone line in your property please request the fibre service called ‘fibre to the cabinet’.

Please note the master telephone socket is connected to the main incoming telephone plate located in either the patch panel data cabinet or living room with wireless slaves used in the bedrooms. Therefore if you wish to have a telephone in the bedroom you will need to use a cordless telephone handset as there are no telephone sockets.

The master phone sockets have been connected to the main distribution panel in the basement plantroom. When you make arrangements with BT and are given a date for connection, the engineer will need to gain access to the equipment contained in the data cabinet located in the hall cupboard. The engineer may also require access to the distribution panel for connection and access to this area will need to be arranged in advance with the Managing Agents.

Please bear in mind that it can take up to 6 weeks to get a broadband connection following the initial connection of the landline.

In addition, further power points and telephone/data points are located in either a base or tower unit of your kitchen which will enable you to conceal your router and also IT equipment such as printers and scanners as well charge mobile devices without the need for them to be visible.

Concealed Sockets and Data Points located in Kitchen Unit

A home office capability has been included either in the living room or one of the bedrooms which provides additional power points and phone sockets to facilitate a desk/workstation with additional phones and IT equipment. The data point has a Cat 5 cable that is hard wired to the master BT incoming connection in the hall cupboard for future connection to a router or other such device. As referred to above if you would prefer to conceal a lot of your office equipment, an ability to do this has also been provided for you in your kitchen unit.

CONNECTION TO HARD WIRED CAT5 CABLING

Within the patch panel located in the cupboard in the hallway, the data points are numbered. Within the rooms of your apartment, the data outlet points are numbered to correspond to an outlet located on the patch panel. When a lead is connected to a specific outlet on the patch panel the corresponding outlet with the same number in the specific room will be activated.
