2.8 Telephone & Data
There are telephone and data points in all the hall cupboards located in the master incoming cabinet and at low level in the lounge and concealed in the kitchen units (see below) where Wi-Fi routers can be connected. The master incoming cabinet contains within it the master incoming BT socket. Within the cabinet there is also a double socket, one for the TV amp and a second for a future router if you wish to have it located there. This master socket is then patched directly to the room outlets so that you can then connect into your router for hard wired data connections or alternatively you can use the Wi-Fi from the router.
Telephone and Data Incoming Cabinet (closed and opened)
The incoming cables that have been installed are sufficient to run both your phone lines and also broadband internet and are ready to receive a phone connection from BT Openreach or a local cable company. Once you move in you will need to arrange for the phone line to be connected or ‘made live’ with the relevant provider.
In addition, further power points and telephone/data points are located in either a base or wall unit of your kitchen which will enable you to conceal your router and also IT equipment such as printers and scanners as well charge mobile devices without the need for them to be visible.
Concealed Power and Data Sockets (Kitchens to all Apartments)
If you want to install fibre optic then this is something that you will need to arrange with a specific provider. No cable provision has been made for this although there is a duct that has been provided that runs from the footpath to the telecom room in the lobby through which a cable could be laid through. Before any works commence to install any form of fibre optic connection you must first obtain the approval of the landlord and the managing agent.
A home office capability has been included in the living room of your apartment where additional power points and phone sockets are located to facilitate a desk/workstation with additional phones and IT equipment. The data point has a Cat 5 cable that is hard wired to the master BT incoming connection in the hall cupboard for future connection to a router or other such device. As referred to above if you would prefer to conceal a lot of your office equipment, an ability to do this has also been provided for you in your kitchen unit.
